Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services

DV fotos 118Helping victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault is one of the top priorities of the Ohio Hispanic Coalition. We have a support group and two full-time Promotoras de Salud who exclusively work with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault cases. These Promotoras fulfill many functions while working with these cases; they become victim advocates, educators, and caseworkers to ensure that the victim has access to every legal, medical, and social service available to them.  There is a strong focus on informing victims of their legal rights, even if they choose not to pursue any legal action. From the first meeting , the Promotoras de Salud are there to support the victims in their decisions and to attend any and all meetings, appointments, or hearings for which the victim wishes them to be present.

Our support group, “Soy Latina”, is a ten week educational group for Hispanic/Latina women.  During this program, participants are exposed to different topics such as self-esteem, victim’s rights, sexual violence prevention, safety planning and methods of problem solving without the use of violence, to name a few. It meets in various locations throughout Columbus. For more information please call us at 614-840-9934.

Services we offer include:

  • Medical and legal advocacy
  • Court companionship
  • Assistance filing the victim compensation application
  • Registering for the VINE line
  • Group support
  • Referrals to other necessary services.

Car Seat Fairs & Checks

The Ohio Hispanic Coalition offers Car Seat fairs and Checks throughout the year sponsored by the Governor’s Highway Safety Office. The main emphasis of this program is to educate the Hispanic/Latino population about the following: traffic laws, the use of seat belts, the correct use of child seats and the negative effects of driving under the influence.

The Ohio Hispanic Coalition also has certified child seat technicians who educate and install child seats for Latino families in Ohio.
